Started my journey with Kybella last month.
Kybella treatments are fairly straightforward. Dr L at Prettyface MediSpa determines if you are a good candidate. When procedure begins she will likely ice or slightly numb the area before the treatment. Kybella comes with a small dotted grid to mark the injection spots, which she will apply to your under-chin area, marking the safe areas to be treated, before injecting the solution. The treatment is performed quite easily.
At first you’ll feel a burning sensation but it’s tolerable, only lasts for a couple minutes. Then your neck starts to swell in the following few days. Doctor L said the bigger your neck gets the better the outcome. My neck did get bigger but got much better as the days passed.
I had two treatments of Kybella for fullness under my chin and to sculpt the lower part of my jaw line and I am thrilled with the results. Dr. L is so informative, professional and thorough. She made me feel very comfortable and did not suggest over doing things. In fact, she wanted to space out the timing between the treatments to really get a sense of how my body would respond to the product. The results are amazing! Learn exactly what Kybella is.
Kybella is a non-surgical injectable for reducing moderate to severe fat below the chin, the area commonly known as a “double chin.” The injection contains a naturally occurring substance in the body, deoxycholic acid, which helps the body absorb fat cells. When properly injected, Kybella destroys fat cells. The FDA approved Kybella as a treatment for adults with submental fat in 2015. I was also told the best candidates have better skin tone and less skin laxity, although Kybella is helpful in most patients with extra fat regardless of age. In my opinion, this treatment has the advantage over liposuction since the latter requires a compression wrap and anesthesia.
After a Kybella treatment, the initial swelling should significantly subside within a few days, but may last up to a couple weeks. Some people also experience a jelly-like feeling to the area or a firmness for a few weeks. This is all normal and signs that the treatment is working. It will take up to six weeks to see the results, at which time your Doctor will determine if you need another. Most people need two or three Kybella treatments to achieve the results they want. Many people have found that the side effects lessen with subsequent treatments, aka if there’s less fat to kill, there will be less swelling. Because Kybella is identical to the deoxycholic acid in your body, which destroys fat cells, once the affected fat cells are killed, they aren’t coming back, the results are permanent!!
